Stephen Clemence pledged to lift the shackles on low-scoring Gillingham after they powered past Salford in a 3-1 victory.

Goals from Connor Mahoney, Tom Nichols and Dom Jefferies earned victory in Clemence’s first home league game at the helm.

Clemence has inherited the joint-least potent attack in Sky Bet League Two and the Gills had only scored more than one goal in a game only twice before this clinical performance.

Barcelona fine for breach of UEFA financial rules upheld following appeal

A fine imposed on Barcelona for a breach of UEFA’s financial reporting rules has been upheld following an appeal by the club.

Barca were fined 500,000 euros (£434,000) in July by the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) First Chamber for wrongly reporting profits on the disposal of intangible assets, other than player transfers, in the financial year 2022 which were not considered as relevant income.

Now, the CFCB’s Appeals Chamber has rejected the club’s appeal and upheld the First Chamber’s initial decision and sanction.

UEFA has not said precisely what the profits wrongly reported by the club related to.

Dani Carvajal has signed a contract extension with Real Madrid until June 2026.

The full-back could miss the rest of the 2024-25 season after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury in Saturday s 2-0 win over Villarreal.
